A ramble on Chinese songs

I have been very busy lately, hence the lack of posts. The past month I was overwhelmed with helping my supervisor writing a grant for my PhD project as well as preparing a grant for myself, which was due one week after the first big grant for my supervisor. And the grant that I was submitting was due on the same day that I was supposed to give a talk on my PhD findings for the School of Medicine and Pharmacology symposium research day. I was proud to be one of the chosen 10 submitted abstracts to give a powerpoint talk instead of a poster talk. It was quite daunting because I was the first speaker but then again, it's good to be the first so that I can get it done and over with. And I'm happy to win the best talk and be presented with a $750 cheque. :) Thank you to the School of Medicine and Pharmacology of University of Western Australia for sponsoring this prize. :) Adds another value to my CV. :) :)

So after all that, I am having quite a happy and relaxing weekend although I did make a trip back to work on both days. I guess the prize motivated me to continue researching and pursuing on my work.

Anyway, just now while ironing Chin Fei's clothes, I blasted some Chinese songs and singing my lungs out loud until Chin Fei laughed at me. I always think of someone when I listen to a song. It's like every song has a meaning to me and a story to tell. Just last week, I messaged Jin Ye after hearing a song from a Taiwanese group, 5566, on my iPod. And just now, I was listening to a song from Tension. I asked Chin Fei if he knew the song, 我們的故事 (English translation: Our story) and Chin Fei said "Of course. You kept on talking about it and Jin Ye". Even so, I told him the story again; that before Jin Ye left to US to further her studies, she introduced this song to me, saved it in a CD and gave me a CD and a whole bunch of letters and I cried listening to the song. It became my favourite song for that whole year. LOL. So yeah, Jin Ye, I'm sure you'll be proud that you're once again in my mind.

It's ironic that I like listening to Chinese songs even though I am not Chinese-educated and don't understand most parts of the songs. I guess listening to Chinese songs is one of the ways of how I self-teach myself the language. Hehe. And now I have given myself an assignment. :P I want to learn how to sing 朋友 (English translation: Friends) by Emil Chau. This song is similar to Graduation Day: Friends Forever by Vitamin C but Chin Fei said that 朋友 is more touching that Graduation Day. I knew of this song years ago and only know how to sing part of the chorus then. So folks, give me some time and I will have this song in the list of songs to sing when I hit the karaoke! Hehehe.

Ok, this is just a ramble from me ... Signing off now. Ciao!
