Go West: A song that describes Chin Fei and I

It's been 3 years already that I'm now in Perth, Western Australia. Thinking back, I have no regrets putting away everything I have in Melbourne, to start a whole new life here with Chin Fei. Yes, a lot of times, I do complain to him about how boring this place is and how I miss my friends in Melbourne; but for our future, I am certain that this is the place for us. It's because of the mining boom here in Western Australia that Chin Fei has a secure job here and it's because of the past asbestos mines in Western Australia that I am doing my PhD in mesothelioma research. :)

After 3 years of staying here, I find that Perth is such a lovely place to live but a boring place to visit. LOL. I like how the lifestyle is so laid back and the life isn't as stressful as in Sydney or Melbourne. I like how Perthians are friendlier compared to the Melbournians and Sydneysiders who are always rushing to work. I like how weekends here are always spent outdoors, be it cycling, fishing or sailing. It's a really good place to relax and unwind. And the tourist attractions such as Margaret River, Cape Leeuwin, Busselton, Denmark and Albany aren't far away too - just a 3 to 5 hours drive during the long weekend break, and you can enjoy the Indian Ocean or even the cold Great Southern Ocean.

It's an irony that Chin Fei, coming from the busy Auckland, and me from the busy Melbourne, will come to the western side of Australia to live. What's even more bizarre was that we were introduced to a song, 'Go West' by Pet Shop Boys, when we watched Priscilla: Queen of the Desert, in Melbourne. The lyrics go something like this:
