A less-than-24-hours trip around Perth

Thunderstorms and 9 degrees Celcius. That did not hamper me bringing one of my good friends, Jin Ye and her friend, Ren Jie, to Perth on a day trip. Yep, you'd sure heard it right. A day trip.

In January this year, Jin Ye told me that she was planning to drop by Perth in May before heading to Melbourne and Sydney. After anxiously waiting for her confirmation, she told me that she booked a flight to arrive Perth in the morning and leave for Melbourne that same night. I was totally shocked at such a planning but took a day off work and did my best in bringing them around.

Unfortunately, that day started with a heavy downpour coupled with severe thunderstorms and lightning. It was really cold. It was ironic because we had sunshine the whole of the past 2 months since the terrible hailstorm that hit Perth in March. In fact, as I am blogging now, the day after Jin Ye and Ren Jie left, there are pretty blue skies. I think Jin Ye must have brought the tropical weather from Malaysia to Perth! Haha.

As soon as they both arrived our home, I treated them with love and hearts with our handmade curry puffs and homemade chrysanthemum tea. Say 'Awww'. :P

Knowing that we did not have much time to waste since it was less than 24 hours in Perth, I drove them to our first stop, Kings Park, in Sean's car. Although there were dark clouds hovering above us, Jin Ye and Ren Jie felt that the park was pretty. Much to my surprise, they spent quite a lot of time walking around the park.

Me chasing after ducks. Tee hee hee. :P

I was astounded to see a pig flying in the sky but poor Jin Ye was squinting her eyes to find it. Haha. :P

Next, we went to Hillarys. It was my fourth time going there (the first was when we went with Chin Fei's parents, the second with my aunt, and the third was with my family). However, none of the times, we actually went over the rocks to the ocean to take pictures overlooking Indian Ocean. That was my first time and it was a memorable event. Firstly, I duped Jin Ye in to climbing on the rocks over to the other side because that was the only way of getting there (when I knew there was another easier way but it was farther).

Why did Jin Ye and Ren Jie climb on the rocks? To get over to the other side. -_-

Once she was on top of the massive boulders, I asked if it was safe for both Ren Jie and I to climb. Haha! :P Secondly, it was very very cold and windy that day and looking at Indian Ocean on such a day is definitely something to remember! No one was swimming nor surfing and we only saw a couple of students sitting on the beach chatting and eating. It was nice to watch the waves keep crashing onto the rocks.

But we couldn't withstand the wind and temperature long so we head in to Sorrento Quay.

For lunch, I drove them to Fremantle (for past visits, read here and here) for the famous fish and chips. You have to eat Fremantle's Fish and Chips when you come to Perth. No spectacular reasons. You just have to. There are many fish and chips restaurants in Fremantle, but I always go to Kailis simply because of its wide variety and its location by the water.

Ren Jie seems so much happier compared to Jin Ye (above). I think he couldn't wait to eat! Haha. :P

Before heading back to the city, we drove around Swan Valley. I was hoping to let them snap some fantastic pictures with the grapes but unfortunately, because of the weather, all we saw were raisins and yellow leaves.

We also went to Mondo Nougats and Margaret River Chocolate Factory (for past visits, read here and here).

Back to the city

That evening, we went to Ciao Italia for dinner. My favourite Italian food has got to be here! :) I dare say that the Italian food here is so much better than Melbourne's Lygon Street's Italian restaurants! Well, that's one good thing that Perth can boast about! Hehe. :P Heck, we even saw a group of Malaysian/Singaporean family who we bumped into in Mondo Nougat, Swan Valley, eating in here. That is how popular this restaurant is! 5 pm and you can see a long queue at the entrance of this restaurant. Although no reservations can be made, people (like us) still don't mind waiting for an hour just to eat their food!

Although I was totally exhausted by the end of the day (from just driving, while the two visitors slept in the car!!!!!), it was a good catch up with Jin Ye and a great meet up with Ren Jie. I am proud to show them around the place that I will be staying for at least the next 3 years. Unfortunately, it was a short trip and we did not go around the city but ah well, there's always another time, right Jin Ye? :)
