As the Chinese New Year festive season is approaching (less than a week more, shout Hoorah! :P), there are more and more policemen standing by the road sides checking on those speeding cars. Yes, most of the time, they hide under bridges, behind bushes, trying to catch those speeding drivers who exceed their speeds by more than 20 kmph.
Okay, I agree that driving at a high speed is dangerous. But it's not really that dangerous driving at 100 kmph on a straight road designated for 80 kmph compared to a motorist making illegal U-turns or taxis suddenly stopping to pick up passengers at a place where there is NO taxi stand and expect the driver behind to suddenly stop (or if cannot break on time, have to swerve to the next lane to continue driving)! or cars parked at the side of a T-junction that drivers can't see when they want to exit the junction and hence have to drive further out a bit to see any oncoming traffic. Heck, today I was very shocked to see a parked car at a sharp bend road! I was driving at a moderate speed (slow enough to take the bend, but too fast to stop) while taking a bend when out of a sudden, right in front of me, about 100 metres away from me, there was a stationary car! I got shocked that I had to switch to the next lane immediately. Luckily, there wasn't any cars behind me and next to me that I could switch lanes easily. This selfish driver parked his car right after a sharp bend to pick his/her child up from school. Yes, of all the places, he/she chose to park right after a bend and left his/her car there to walk across. How inconsiderate!
Well, the reason I am posting this up is also due to my outrage anger yesterday. I almost knocked down a motorcyclist because that dumb person chose to ride on my left side and then cut across me to make a U-turn as I wanted to drive straight. To depict the situation clearly, below is the diagram. I (in indigo) wanted to turn right into a small lane from a main trunk road. This motorcyclist (in blue) was on my left. When there no cars already, I wanted to turn right into the small lane and this motorcyclist on my left, made a U-turn right in front of my car as I wanted to dash straight into the lane. How dumb can a person be? Seriously. Sigh. What angered me most was that I was shocked and stepped on the break pedal immediately and the motorcyclist stared at me as if he wanted to bash me up for being so rude for not giving him way to make a U-turn, as he happily rode his bike to the side to go for drinks in the stalls. Excuse me, but it was his fault for making a U-turn in front of a car who wants to go straight and yet he wants to give me that stinking look as if I made a huge mistake! What the @#$@!! He should have at least be on my right if he wanted to make a U-turn and not cut across right in front of me. Aargh.

Thinking about it, makes me think back of how less stress I was driving in Melbourne during my road trips. People there give and take and never honk unless you are really very wrong. But here in Malaysia, everyone honks at everyone. Sigh. I hate it that I should drive the Malaysian way just because "this is Malaysian-lah!" but stop at zebra-crossings and adhere to the rules when I am in Australia? Why?! Isn't there an international driving guideline that everyone should give and take and stop at the zebra-crossings? It's really frustrating because when I am slowing down at a junction to give way for cars to turn in, I get honked by a car behind me. It's frustrating because drivers here like to switch lanes so quickly when their current lane slows down for just a while. Why are drivers here so impatient for goodness sake? Arriving at a destination 5 minutes earlier does not give any big difference for God's sake!
One ironic thing that I must say is that on a highway (LDP highway that connects Damansara and Puchong) is that every impatient driver wants to drive fast and so they (which is like 90% of the drivers on the road) drive on the fast lane, leaving it all jam-packed and slow while the slowest lane has less cars, making it the fastest lane of all. When I was driving on Melbourne freeway, I never could overtake another vehicle because they too were driving at the same maximum speed as I am. Isn't that supposed to be? People here just don't seem to care that they should not overtake at a double line. C'mon, does it kill to actually drive further away from the junction they came out before cutting into the next lane when the double line ends? These impatient ones are always the ones that cause the traffic to slow down because they just want to join the crowd in the supposedly-fast lane. Sigh.
So, like what dad said, accidents don't happen because people driving fast. Accidents happen because inconsiderate people are driving on the road. I think policemen should actually summon those unethical drivers (in addition to those speeding cars). Instead of checking into each car whether all the passengers buckle up their seatbelts, please summon those who actually turn into a "No Entry" lane, those who triple park their cars causing a 4 -lane road become a one way street etc etc. After all, those F1 car drivers actually drive at a speed on 300 kmph while talking on their microphone to their bosses and yet they rarely meet accidents Why? Because they don't simply overtake people and don't experience a stationary car at a bend right in front of them! They are ethical drivers. Hehe.
